Valve’s Steam, which was first launched in 2003 as a means to provide game updates by the publisher, is now one of the largest and arguably the most popular digital game distribution service in the world right now.

Steam features a wide variety of games across genres, price range and platforms and with such a large game library on offer (with numerous free-to-play games), people tend to make several purchases over a period of time.

If you want to keep a tab on the number of games you’re purchasing on Steam and how much it’s setting you back, here is how to check the recent transactions as well as the complete purchase history on Steam using its website or client. This is followed by a guide to help you refund your games from Steam in a jiffy.

How to see recent transactions and complete purchase history in Steam?

If you want to see your recent transactions on Steam or the complete purchase history, either login to your account on store.steampowered.com or onto the Steam client on your PC and follow the steps mentioned below.

Step 1: Click on your Profile name or image near the top-right of the page; from the dropdown list, select Account details. On your account page, click on View purchase history option under Store & Purchase History.

Step 2: On the next page, you’ll be able to see your recent transactions at the top and scroll down to view the entire purchase history.

If you want to check out more details about a transaction, click on it and you’ll be able to resolve issues such as double-charges, wrong charge, and also print a receipt of the purchase, among other things.

How to refund a game in Steam?

You can only refund games on Steam that you’ve purchased in the past 14 days and have played for less than two hours. The playtime includes online, offline or shared library playtime. Now while these are the general guidelines and to an extent ensure a refund, according to Valve, you can submit a refund request if you fall outside of these parameters too.

To refund a game in Steam, you’ll need to follow the steps in the guide above or go to help.steampowered.com (login to your account on their website first) and then follow the steps mentioned below.

Step 1: From your recent transactions (shown in Step 2 above), click on the game you would want to refund. Then on game’s page, click on the I would like a refund option.

Step 2: Then on the next page, select I’d like to request a refund.

Step 3: Then fill in the required details including where you would like the refund (bank account or Steam wallet) and why you’re requesting a refund. Once you’re done, click on the Submit Request button at the bottom.

Once you’ve completed the process and the refund has been improved by Valve, it can take up to seven days for the refund to reflect in your bank account.

If you request a refund within 24 hours of purchasing the game, most likely it won’t show in your bank statement as the original transaction stands cancelled in such cases. Also, cancelled payment sums can take up to 10 days to reflect back in your bank account.
