Archiving a chat can be of help either if you want to hide a chat from plain view in your contact chat list on Whatsapp’s home screen or else you just want to save a conversation with a person or group, which isn’t active anymore. You can unarchive these chats also, but the process of unarchiving is not the same as archiving a chat.

Unarchive chat on WhatsApp for Android and iOS
Launch Whatsapp on your Android device and follow the steps below to unarchive a chat.
- Scroll down to the bottom of your chat screen and tap on the Archived option.
- All the chats that you have archived will appear. Press and hold the chat that you want to unarchive.
- Then tap on the Unarchive (a box with up arrow) button from the options that appear at the top of the screen.
- Your chat will be moved from the archived list to normal chat list.
The steps for unarchiving a Whatsapp chat on iPhone is slightly different. The Archived option doesn’t appear at the bottom of the chat list as it does on Android. So, you’ll need to search for the chat that you had archived, left swipe on it and then tap on the Unarchive option.

Unarchive chat on WhatsApp web
Launch the WhatsApp web app on your PC and follow the steps below to unarchive a chat.
Step 1: Click on the More (triple vertical dots) button, a drop-down menu will appear, click on the Archived option in the menu.
Step 2: Hover over the chat you want to unarchive. A down arrowhead icon will appear, click on the Down arrowhead icon. Again a drop-down menu will appear, click on the Unarchive chat option.
Your chat will be moved from the archived list to normal chat list.
