Instagram is by far one of the most popular social media platforms in the world. The team keeps adding new features and enhancements to the app to further improve it and keep growing the user base, but there are some missing features that a lot of us would want in the app.

In this article, we’re talking about the Instagram Plus app, its features and whether or not you should install it on your phone.

Instagram Plus explained

Similar to apps like GBWhatsApp or Whatsapp Plus, Instagram Plus is an unofficial, third-party app that adds several features to the existing Instagram app. Some of the top features that this app offers include:

  • New home feed layouts
  • Ability to save audios, photos and stories to local storage
  • Follower/Following stats
  • Ability to zoom posts and profile photos
  • Open links inside Instagram
  • Share posts with third-party apps
  • Hide comments in the timeline

The app replaces the default Instagram package on your Android or iOS device. This means that if you decide to switch to Instagram Plus on your phone, you’re going to have to replace the stock Instagram app.

A word of caution

These third-party apps are often built by individual developers and can open your account to data breaches. Since they’re not distributed through the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store, there’s also a good chance that the app you’re downloading has some sort of malware infection waiting to target your device.

Additionally, Instagram isn’t too keen on users using third-party apps to browse the platform and can ban your account if it detects you’re using anything other than a web browser or the official app to access Instagram.

Always do your due diligence before downloading such apps to ensure you’re protected. Only download third-party apps from trusted sources to minimise the chance of a malware infection on your phone or your Instagram account being compromised.
