Usually, just about anything we do on Windows is rather hassle-free. However, just like any other piece of tech, Windows isn’t perfect and does run into errors from time to time.
In this article, we’re taking a look at Windows 10 being stuck on restarting and giving you a few solutions to solve the problem.
Restart without any peripherals
The first thing you should try is disconnecting all peripherals connected to your PC to see if they’re causing any issues with the reboot. Often, connected peripherals have services running in the background, stopping Windows from rebooting or shutting down.
Force shutdown your PC
A rather simple solution to the problem is forcing your PC to shut down by holding down the power button for about six seconds. Once your PC is off, wait for about 15 seconds before starting it back up again, and you should be good to go.
End unresponsive processes
Another thing you should keep in mind before you start to shut down or restart your PC is to ensure that you’ve quit all unresponsive processes. Access the task manager to see if any processes are stuck and force close them before proceeding.
Windows update issues
Follow these steps if you believe your PC isn’t restarting because of a pending update.
This method will change the name of your SoftwareDistribution folder to SoftwareDistribution.old. Windows will then have to redownload any files it needs to run the updates.
Step 1: Press Windows Key + X to open the Quick Access menu and click on Command Prompt (Admin).
Step 2: Type the following command in the prompt and press Enter.
ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old
Run the Windows Troubleshooter
Windows 10 has many easy to use troubleshooters that can work out any issues you might be facing with your PC.
Step 1: Start the Control Panel and search for Troubleshooter in the top-right section. Click on the corresponding search result.
Step 2: Click on View all in the left menu.
Step 3: Run the System Maintenance troubleshooter.
Let the troubleshooter do its thing, and your PC will be right as rain.
