Microsoft released the first preview build of Windows 11 on Monday. The build (22000.51) comes on the Dev Channel of the Windows Insider program and is now available for users to download and try. 

In this article, we’re going over how you can install and try out the first official preview build of Windows 11. 

Do keep in mind that if you don’t meet the minimum requirements for Windows 11, you may not see the update being available to you even if you’re in the Dev Channel of the Windows Insider Program.

Lastly, we strongly recommend that you don’t install this preview build on your everyday machine as there can be quite a lot of bugs, glitches and other rough edges that may impact your day to day work.

Installing Windows 11 preview build 22000.51

The process to get the update is rather simple. Once you’re sure you meet the minimum requirements, follow these steps to get the update running on your machine.

Step 1: Press the Windows key and search for Windows Insider Program. Click the corresponding search result.

Step 2: Click on Get started,

Step 3: Click Link an account to link a Microsoft account with the Windows Insider Program. 

Step 4: Select the account you want to proceed with and click Continue. 

Step 5: Once you’re logged in, you’ll be asked to pick your insider settings. Select the Dev Channel and click Confirm. 

Step 6: Now confirm the Insider Privacy Statement and the Insider Program Agreement.

Step 7: Finally, you’ll be asked to restart your PC so that you can start getting insider builds. Click on Restart now and wait for your PC to restart.

Now head back to Windows Update, and you should see the insider build for Windows 11 download. Install the update and usual, and you’ll have Windows 11 on your PC in no time. 

You should see most of the visual improvements Microsoft talked about when announcing the OS earlier this month in this build.
