Many household gadgets such as routers and door cameras use LED lights to indicate their status as there’s often not enough space for a display on the device itself. While the technically adept might be able to guess what a particular light on their devices means, most people just end up confused.
In this article, we’re talking about the blinking red LED on Blink cameras, what it means and what you can do to fix the problem.

Why is your Blink camera flashing red?
The main reason why your Blink camera might be flashing red is that it has lost its connection to your WiFi network and is currently trying to reconnect. While you can reset the Sync Module to stop the camera from flashing, that might not necessarily resolve your issue. A red blinking LED can also indicate low battery status.
How to fix this?
Here are six fixes you can try out.
Check your internet connection
One of the first things you should do is check to see if you have an active WiFi connection. Try connecting other devices to your router to see if they can access the internet and that your WiFi router is in range of the Blink camera. Restarting the router can often resolve any network connectivity issues that you might be experiencing.
Reconnect your camera
The most likely fix for your problem is going to be simply reconnecting the camera to your WiFi network. To do so, first ensure that the sync module and your phone with the Blink app are on the same network, then follow these steps.
- Launch the Blink app and head over to Settings.
- Tap the Sync Module.
- Select Change WiFi Network.
- Follow the instructions given by the app to reset the Sync Module. It generally involves pressing the reset button on the module with a pin.
- Once the lights on the Sync Module start blinking blue and green in a pattern, tap Discover Device.
- Tap Join from the prompt that appears.
- Select your WiFi network from the list and enter your credentials.
The camera should be able to connect to your WiFi network without any problems now.
Check the camera’s battery status
You can use the Blink app on your phone to check the current battery levels on your camera. If the battery is too low, that might as well be causing the red blinking. If the battery is too low, replace it with new AA cells and restart the camera. The red blinking should stop now.
Move the camera to a less motion-prone place
Several Blink cameras will flash red for a small period of time after detecting motion. If your camera supports motion detection, there’s a good chance that the red blinking is just the camera detecting motion. Try moving it to a less-motion-prone area or someplace where you don’t expect a lot of activity to see if that helps.
Reset the camera
Resetting your camera can also help resolve a lot of temporary bugs and glitches. All you have to do is hold down the reset button on the camera with a pin or something small enough to fit inside the reset button hole. Once the camera starts alternating between blue and green lights, use the aforementioned steps to connect it to your home WiFi and you should be good to go.
