Yelp is one of the most popular reviewing community that boasts of close to 200 million reviews and north of a 100 million unique visits every month on its US website alone. It’s not only used by end-users who review local businesses but also by the same businesses to advertise their services and the business owners to maintain their business listings.
Here we’ve put together a guide to help consumers, business owners and Elite squad users to change their name on Yelp.
How to change your Yelp name?
If you’re a consumer, you’ll need to login to your Yelp account on the website via a browser and follow the steps below.
Step 1: Click on your profile picture towards the top-right of the Yelp page and then click on Account Settings from the drop-down menu.
Step 2: On the next page, tap on Profile. Then fill in your First Name, Last Name and optionally also your Nickname. Then click on Save Changes.
For Elite Yelpers
If you’re a member of the Yelp Elite Squad, you can follow the same steps as above to change your name. However, being an Elite Yelper, the company expects you to use your real name. So if you update your name in the profile, it’ll be subject to evaluation by the Yelp Elite Squad Council. Name changes for Elite Yelpers are assess on a case-by-case basis, so if the updates don’t change your identity — for example changing one’s maiden name after marriage — you’ll be fine. If your name change creates confusion or is considered as an attempt to hide your identity, then you’ll lose the Elite status.
For Yelp Business Owners
Yelp business owners can change their name via the business owner’s website or app. To do it via the app, follow the steps below:
- Tap on More on the iPhone app or the sidebar menu on the Android app.
- Then tap on Account Information
- Tap on the name field, edit your name and then tap on Save.
To do it via the website, Go to Account Settings and click Edit next to Business Account Information. Then make the changes and click on Save.
