Mobile number
This error may occur due to different issues regarding your phone number. Listed below are a few common problems with their solutions that may help resolve the ‘couldn’t register in Google Pay’ error.
Indian Phone number
Start by ensuring that the number put in use for Google Pay is the first SIM on your dual-SIM. Google Pay does not work with international phone numbers; it requires an Indian phone number for its function; make sure you are using an Indian number. Also, check and recheck if the number is entered correctly with the Indian country code 91.
SIM Balance
Google Pay requires SMS services to verify the bank account and other details. Your phone number must have enough balance or an active SMS pack to send and receive SMS.
Active networks and connections
After checking for balance, make sure that your phone number is active. After ensuring that the phone number is active, check if you are online to be able to use the SMS services. Check the following three parameters to ensure you are online –
- Mobile data is ON. Visit a website to ensure it’s working.
- Aeroplane mode is OFF.
- The signal bar has at least one bar.
Make sure that there is no VPN application on your phone that may limit data connection.
Once your connections are strong, you can retry the registration process.
New verification codes
After following all the above steps, check if you have received any OPT via SMS or click on Resend OTP on the verification screen.
