How to disable or enable cookies on Microsoft Edge?

Microsoft Edge replaced the old Internet Explorer, which was more often than not the first browser that Windows users were introduced to in the 90s and early 2000s until Chrome was launched and emerged as a clear winner with more people opting for the newer lightweight browser by Google. However, Microsoft has been slowly adapting to the open-source Chromium project and will be releasing the new Edge browser on January 15, 2020.

Although not as popular anymore, the new Edge is going to be based on Chromium and promises to be lighter and faster. If you’re one of the Microsoft loyalists or find it more appealing since Chrome tends to hog up a lot of RAM, but can’t find how to disable or enable cookies on Edge on PC, Android or iOS, here is a step-by-step guide to help you.

How to disable or enable cookies in Edge on PC?

  • Tap on the horizontal three-dot menu icon on the bottom-right of the display.
  • Then tap on Settings from the menu.
  • On the next page scroll down to the bottom and tap on Site permissions under the Advanced sub-heading.
  • On the next page, tap on Cookies.
  • Then disable the toggle switch beside Cookies so that it appears dull grey (as shown in the screenshot above) to disable the cookies. If you want to enable cookies, tap on the same toggle switch so that it appears deep blue.

  • Tap on the horizontal three-dot menu icon on the bottom-right of the display.
  • Then tap on Settings from the menu.
  • On the next page, tap on Privacy and security.
  • On the next page, scroll to the bottom and tap on Cookies under the Security sub-heading.
  • On the next page, tap on Don’t block cookies to enable cookies on Edge browser. To disable the cookies, tap on Block all cookies option.

In all three cases, you might need to restart the browser to update the changes.
