Screen sharing on Discord is one of the most immersive features of the game and allows communities of people to enjoy streams and gameplay together.
However, people have reported running into several issues while screen sharing on Discord, including the ‘Discord screen share no audio’ issue and ‘Discord screen share black screen’ error, among several others.
In this article, we’ve discussed how to fix the ‘Discord screen share not working’ issue in eight quick and easy ways.
Add apps to Discord profile
Usually, Discord automatically detects the program or game you’re running on your PC. However, failure to do so can lead to issues while sharing your screen with others, including no audio. Here’s how to fix this.
Step 1: Head over to Discord (make sure your game or program is already running) and click on the settings gear icon next to your username.
Step 2: Head over to Activity Status and click on Add it.
Step 3: This will show a pop up from adding any running program to Discord.
Switch to windowed mode
This one-off bug affects a few users across the program’s user base. If you’re showing an application or game in the full-screen mode, chances are your audio might not go through.
The solution to this? Run whatever program or game it is in windowed mode, and you should hear the audio output just fine in the stream.

Disable ‘latest technology’ settings in Discord
Try disabling the latest technologies setting in Discord to check if using the legacy method solves your issue.
Step 1: Open Discord and click on the settings icon in the bottom left.
Step 2: Head over to the Voice & Video section on the left.
Step 3: Scroll down and disable the Use our latest technologies to capture your screen option.
Disable hardware acceleration in Discord
Discord’s in-built hardware acceleration can at times restrict the program from specific actions. Try disabling it to see if that gets the screen share working.
Step 1: Click the settings icon next to your name at the bottom.
Step 2: Head over to Advanced under App Settings and disable the Hardware Acceleration setting.
Restart Discord and try again; the Discord screen share not working should be fixed.

Disable Chrome’s hardware acceleration
If you’re trying to stream a Chrome window on Discord, Chrome’s hardware acceleration settings can cause the screen share not working error. Here’s how you can disable them.
Head over to chrome://settings/system. Make sure that the hardware acceleration setting is turned off.
Clear Discord cache folder
Clearing out Discord’s cache and files will force the program to redownload them and eliminate any corrupt files that may be causing this issue in the process.
Step 1: Open the Run prompt using Windows Key + R, type in %appdata% and hit enter.
Step 2: Delete the discord folder in the directory.
Now repeat these steps with %localappdata% and restart Discord.

Run Discord as admin
Since Discord uses UDP to communicate with its servers, there’s a chance that inappropriate permissions are getting in its way. Try running Discord with administrator privileges to check if that resolves your issue.
Step 1: Press the Windows key and search for Discord.
Step 2: Right-click on Discord and click Run as administrator.
Make sure that the program you’re trying to stream is running with admin privileges as well, and try sharing your screen again.
Uninstall Discord and resintall
If none of the methods mentioned above worked for you, your last resort is to reinstall Discord. Here’s how.
Step 1: Right-click on the taskbar and click on Task Manager.
Step 2: Under the Processes tab, find any running Discord processes and close them by right-clicking them and selecting End Process.
Step 3: Once you’ve ended all running Discord processes, we’re going to remove Discord. To do so, press Windows key + X to bring up the quick access menu. Select Apps and Features from this menu.
Step 4: Find Discord in the list, click on it and select Uninstall.
Now head over to the Discord website to download the program’s latest version and install it on your PC. This should fix the Discord screen share not working error.
