Windows has a lot of built-in tools and programs to help users control, manage and use different features on their computers. One such program is the Groove Music player, aimed at being a modern alternative to the Windows Media Player.
However, Groove isn’t perfect and keeps running into errors from time to time. In this article, we’re talking about Groove Music not saving changes to playlists and track metadata and what you can do to fix the problem.
What causes this?
There isn’t a fixed reason why you might run into this error as it can be triggered by a number of issues, including:
- Outdated Groove version.
- Windows bugs/glitches.
- Unsupported file format.
- The track is read-only.
How to fix this?
Here are five fixes you can try out.
Update your OS
The first thing to do in such situations is to make sure your OS is up to date. Developers usually diagnose these issues based on insider reports or feedback from customers and issue fixes or patches in the form of updates. Check to make sure you’ve got the latest update installed on your system.
Check if the track is read-only
If the track that you’re trying to edit is read-only, Windows won’t allow you to change the metadata or other relevant information. Check to see if the track is relevant and remove the read-only privilege if it is, here’s how.
Step 1: Navigate to the directory where the track is stored, right-click it and select Properties.
Step 2: Under the General tab, ensure that the Read-only checkbox is unchecked.
Groove Music should be able to edit track metadata now.
Reset the program
Try resetting Groove Music to check if it’s working.
Step 1: Press the Windows key + X and click on Apps and Features.
Step 2: Find Groove Music in the list and click on Advanced Features.
Step 3: Click on the Reset button to reset the program.
Check if you can make changes now.
Run the Windows App troubleshooter
Windows 10 has a bunch of really useful troubleshooters that can fix several issues with your PC.
Step 1: Press the Windows key and search for Troubleshooters. Click the corresponding search result.
Step 2: Click on Additional Troubleshooters.
Step 3: Scroll down and run the Windows Apps Troubleshooter.
Let the troubleshooter run and it’ll most likely fix the error you’re facing.
Update your PC
Another thing you should do is update your PC. Updating your PC will, in most cases, update your programs as well and fix any issues in the process.
