Playstation has been supplying games, consoles, and accessories to gamers for the past three decades with PS5, PS4, PS VR headsets, and wireless controllers. With 400 titles, including 75 free-to-play titles, your PS4 gaming controller will run out of battery if you don’t charge it regularly. You can connect your controller to the PS4 system with a USB cable.

In this article, we will be discussing how long it will take for your PS4 controller to charge completely and other considerations to keep in mind concerning the battery.

Optimal charging duration

The optimal duration for a PS4 controller to charge completely after being drained out is approximately two hours. However, gamers usually keep their PS4 plugged into the PS4 console system, computer, or in their laptop using a PowerA HDMI cable, which supports 4K HDR gameplay. You can also charge your DualShock 4 PS4 controllers in the DualShock 4 charging stations that can power up two controllers at the same time. You can check the level of charge of your controller by clicking on the PS4 button on your controller, the same will be displayed on your screen.

You can keep charging your PS4 controller’s internal batteries while playing a game or when your PS4 console is in rest mode, the equivalent of sleep mode on laptops. When in rest mode, the light bar on your controller will slowly pulse orange to indicate charging has begun. When this light stops pulsing, then your PS4 controller will be completely charged. You can remove it from the console system or the charging station and use Bluetooth to continue playing games.

Important factors to remember

The time taken by a PS4 to charge depends on various factors that you should keep in mind and they include:

  • A PS4 controller can only charge if the system that it is attached to, is switched on be it in use or in rest mode.
  • Charge the controller in an environment where the temperature does not exceed 30 degrees Celsius or drops below 10 degrees Celsius.
  • To avoid damaging your controller’s battery, do not drain the battery of your PS4 controller completely. Allow it to get to full charge before removing it from charge.
  • Even if you leave your controller plugged in, the automatic voltage cut-off will not exceed your controller’s battery above its maximum allowable limit. As the battery starts draining, the console will begin charging your battery again, this way your PS4 controller will remain functional and charged at all times.
