GIFs are a really fun and interactive way to convey your messages and have been the popular choice in many conversations to get a point across in one of the most engaging manners. Although emails are one of the most conventional methods of corresponding online, it doesn’t hurt to add a little bit of modern touch to your conversations.
If you want to insert a GIF in your email to make it sound a bit more easy-going to unconventional, but can’t figure out how, here we explain all the ways in which you can insert a GIF in Gmail, through the website or apps for Android and iOS.
Inserting GIF in the Gmail app
There are two methods to insert a GIF in Gmail app for Android and iOS. If you insert a GIF via attachments (1st method) then the GIF will appear as attachment to the email and if you choose to add it via Gboard, it’ll appear in-line the body of your email.
Method 1: via attachments
Open the Gmail app, then tap on the compose mail and follow the steps below to insert GIFs in an email.

- Tap on the Attach (paper clip) icon on the left side of the send icon on the top of the screen.
- In the menu that appears, tap on Attach file or Insert from Drive option.
- Then choose the GIF that you wan to insert
- So make sure you have downloaded the GIFs that you want to send to the other person.

Method 2: via Gboard
This method only works when you have Gboard set as the default keyboard on your phone. Inserting a GIF in email gets easier through this method because it allows you to search and add GIFs.
Open the compose window and follow the steps below to insert GIFs in your email through Gboard.

- Tap on GIF icon, sec0nd icon from the left side on the toolbar of Gboard.
- A list of GIFs will appear. Select from the recently used GIFs or search them through the box at the top of the keyboard. You can also browse popular GIFs from the options beside the Search box.

Inserting GIF in Gmail on PC
Open the Gmail on your PC and open the compose window and follow the steps below to insert Gifs.
To attach a mail click on the Attach (paper clip) icon second option from the left on the toolbar beside the send button at the bottom of the screen. Similar to the Gmail app, its website also allows you to either insert the GIF as an attachment to the email or insert in-line your text body.
If you want to add a GIF as an attachment to the email, click on the Attach (paper clip) icon.
If you want to insert a GIF so that it appears in the text body via a link or from Google photos then click on Image icon third option from the right on the toolbar beside the send button at the bottom of the screen.

Insert GIF in-line in email
To upload a GIF inline, click on the Choose photo to upload button at the centre of the insert photo window. If you use this option to insert the GIF then it will be added in-line your email.

Insert GIF in email via URL
To upload a GIF via link, copy a URL of the GIF and paste it in the Paste an image URL box.

If you already have the GIF in your google photos then you can directly send the GIF by photos option in the insert photo window.
