League of Legends was launched by Riot Games in 2009, and since then the game has gone through a massive overhaul with new champions, revised and new maps, alongwith gameplay changes too.
Two of the new things that LOL brought along in the past few years were Lethality and Adaptive Force, both of which affect the gameplay and of course the player’s strategy in-game.
In this article, we’ve discussed what is lethality and adaptive force, alongwith a bonus explainer for what is FF at the end.

What is Lethality in LOL?
Lethality was introduced to LOL in 2017. Lethality is widely considered as the new and altered stat for flat armour penetration. However, that’s not accurate. Lethality actually is a new stat to calculate flat armour penetration.
Armour penetration is a champ stat that reduces the armour of the target when struck. According to League of Legend’s patch notes, the formula for calculating armour penetration with lethality is as follows: Flat Armour Penetration = Lethality x (0.6 + 0.4 x level ÷ 18), something that has been contested in a fan discussion board.
So, if you’re targeting a champion at Level 18 who has 100 armour and you have 10 lethality points, then that champion will receive damage as if its armour was 90 (not taking into account percentage or flat armour reduction and percentage armour penetration, which are calculated before lethality or flat armour penetration does).
 What increases lethality?
Sudden Impact on the rune page will increase the lethality of the champion. In addition, the following items can also be purchased in-game to increase the lethality of your champion.
- Duskblade of Draktharr
- Edge of Night
- Sanguine Blade
- Serrated Dirk
- Umbral Glaive
- Youmuu’s Ghostblade

What is Adaptive Force in LOL?
Adaptive Force essentially grants additional attack damage (AD) or ability power (AP) to the champion, depending on whether the champ has higher AD or AP.
1 adaptive force will increase the attack damage of the champion by either 1 AP or 0.6 AD.
If your champion has equal AD and AP, then the increase of stats due to adaptive force will depend on the type of your champion — whether it’s AD or AP in nature.
What increases adaptive force?
The following runes are responsible for altering adaptive force in-game. You can choose these while setting your rune pages.
- Absolute Focus
- Adaptive force rune shard
- Conqueror
- Eyeball Collection
- Gathering Storm
- Ghost Poro
- Transcendence
- Waterwalking
- Zombie Ward

Bonus: What does FF mean in LOL?
You might’ve heard your friends say it or might’ve seen your fellow teammates or enemies say the same in chat. The term FF is short for Forfeit and is used when players want to surrender the game.
You can use /ff instead of /surrender if you want to start a surrender vote in LOL.
