Xiaomi has announced its next flagship series, the 12T lineup consisting of the Xiaomi 12T Pro which comes in three variants (8GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, and 12GB+256GB) as well as the Xiaomi 12T in two variants (8GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB).

Both phones are almost identical in terms of appearance in size, but the 12T Pro gets a better camera system and the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, while the budget-oriented 12T makes do with MediaTek’s Dimensity 8100 Ultra. The 12T Pro also gets a third variant with 12GB RAM but outside of that, both phones are pretty much identical.

The Xiaomi 12T Pro and 12T start at €749 and €599 respectively and will be available in the market starting October 13 via Xiaomi official channels.

Performance

While both phones get quite good processors, the 12T Pro comes with the latest and greatest that Snapdragon has to offer — the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 based on the TSMC 4nm process. The 12T gets MediaTek’s Dimensity 8100 Ultra based on the TSMC 5nm process.

This makes the 12T stand out a bit more in terms of performance. However, considering both phones get the same UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR5 RAM, you’re not going to see much of a difference unless you go with the highest-end 12T Pro with 12GB RAM, significantly more than the 12T’s maximum of 8GB.

Display

Both phones get a 6.67-inch CrystalRes AMOLED DotDisplay running at 120Hz, a 480Hz touch sampling rate and the ability to switch between 30, 60, 90 or 120Hz based on the phone’s usage. They also have the same brightness, coming in at 500 nits typical and 900 nits peak as well as the same contrast ratio and colour spectrum at 5,000,000: 1 and 68 billion colours respectively.

That said, the 12T Pro’s display does get a few extra bells and whistles that the 12T misses out on, including Dolby Vision, Adaptive HDR, and an SGS Low Visual Fatigue Certification. The in-display fingerprint sensor is also identical between the two phones.

Cameras

The camera system is the biggest difference between the two phones. The 12T Pro gets the following camera on the back:

The 12T Pro also gets Xiaomi ProFocus, Night Mode and Ultra Night Video alongside 8K video recording and HDR10+ video.

As for the base 12T, the camera still is still quite good considering the price. You get the following cameras on the back:

  • 108MP wide-angle main camera powered by the Samsung ISOCELL HM6 sensor.
  • 8MP ultra-wide angle camera.
  • 2MP macro camera.

The 12T shares its Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and Ultra Night Video with its more specced out sibling but misses out on the aforementioned features. Finally, the front camera is identical on both phones coming in 20MP with a 78-degree field of view.

Battery, charging and software

The battery and charging systems are identical between the two phones with both having a 5,000 mAh battery capable of charging at 120W thanks to Xiaomi’s HyperCharge. You’ll also get a compatible 120W adaptor in the box.

As for the software, the Phone will be powered by MIUI 13 (based on Android 12).

Pricing and availability

As mentioned before, the 12T Pro comes in the following three variants and starts at €749.
