Chess.com is one of the websites — also available as an app for Android and iOS — that allows people to seamlessly connect and play chess online and if you’re new to the platform and aren’t able to find your way around it, we’ve got a series of explainers on Chess.com that will help you find your way and focus on the game more.
In this article, we’re going to explain how to add a friend on Chess.com either by searching for them using their username or during a live match. We’ve also added two more guides to help you accept friend requests or remove a friend on Chess.com.

How to add a friend on Chess.com?
Log on to your account on Chess.com and follow the steps mentioned below to add a friend using the search function of the platform.
On the website
Step 1: Click on the Home option at the top-left of the website and then select Friends from the list of options that appear.

Step 2: On the next page, click on the Search Members box and type the name of the friend you want to add on Chess.com.

Step 3: Once their profile card appears in the search, click on the third icon from the right (as shown below) to add the person as a friend.

If you aren’t able to find your friend’s profile, you can filter the results further by choosing their country or clicking on the Advanced link at the bottom-right of the search box to the right.

On Chess.com’s app
Open the Chess.com app on your Android or iOS device and follow the steps mentioned below to add a friend.

- Tap on the Connect tab at the bottom of the app.
- Then tap on Find friends already using Chess.com.
- Then enter the Username of your friend in the box and tap on the Plus (+) button.
- You’ll see a Request Sent notification at the bottom of the page if the username is accurate.
You can also send requests to your recent opponents on the same page, who will be listed in the second half of the page.

How to add a friend on Chess.com during a live match?
Click on the name of your opponent during the match and from icons at the bottom of the box that appears, click on the third one from the right (as shown below). A friend request will be sent to the person.

You can also block or report the person by clicking on the More link at the bottom-right of the same box.

How to accept a friend request on Chess.com?
Step 1: Click on the Home option at the top-left of the website and then select Friends from the list of options that appear.

Step 2: On the side panel to the right, you’ll see all the friend requests you’ve received under Pending Requests. Click on the tick icon of the friend request you want to accept.

Step 3: Then click on the Yes button on the box that appears.

How to remove a friend on Chess.com?
Step 1: Click on the Home option at the top-left of the website and then select Friends from the list of options that appear.

Step 2: From the list, click on the third icon from the left (as shown below); from the options that appear to the right of the friend’s name whom you want to remove.

On Chess.com’s app
Open the Chess.com app on your Android or iOS device and follow the steps mentioned below to remove a friend.

- Tap on the Connect tab at the bottom of the app.
- Then tap on Friends.
- Then choose the friend you want to remove from your list of friends.
- Then tap on the profile icon at the bottom-right of the said friend’s card.
- Then from the options that pop-up, tap on the Remove Friend icon.
