How to create a progress bar in Notion?

Notion’s flexibility allows you to customise your workspace to fit various needs, from project management to personal tracking. While Notion does not have a built-in progress bar feature, you can still create one using its database and formula functionalities.

Steps to create a progress bar in Notion

Follow the steps below to create a progress bar in Notion:

Step 1: Open the Notion project where you want to create a progress bar.

Step 2: Type /data and then in the menu select Database – Inline option.

Step 3: It will create an inline database. Now, we have to create three different columns or properties to create a progress bar. Click on the Plus icon beside the Tags column.

Step 4: In the dropdown menu, click on the Number option.

Step 5: Name the property, and one column has been created.

Step 6: We have to follow the same steps to create a new property. Click on the Plus icon beside the property you just created.

Step 7: In the dropdown menu, choose Number again.

Step 8: Give the property a name and the second property is created.

Step 9: Now, we will create another property to enter the formula. Click on the Plus icon beside the target property we just created.

Step 10: In the search bar, type Formula and click the Formula option.

Step 11: Give the property a name and then click on the Formula field to enter the formula.

Step 12: Now, type the formula name of the first column divided by the name of the second column. Our formula is Current/Target. After entering the formula, click on the Done button.

Step 13: Now, coming back to the same menu, choose the Bar option in the Show as section. You can also choose a ring or number. After that, if you want to change the result in percent, click on the Number format option.

Step 14: Select the Percent option to change the results in percentage.

Step 15: You will see it like this.

Creating a progress bar in Notion requires a bit of creativity and use of the formula feature, but it’s a powerful way to visualise and track progress on your projects. You can make your Notion workspace more functional and visually informative by setting up a database with appropriate columns and formulas.
