Why does Cricket require compatibility?

Cricket Wireless network can be utilised to an optimal level only when your device is compatible with their requirements. These requirements are fairly uncomplicated to provide you with a seamless and smooth voice and internet experience by enabling HD voice technology. High-definition voice brings a clear quality to your voice communications and reduces background noise.

However, to partake in HD Voice conversations your phone as well as the other phone on the other end must be compatible with the Cricket HD Voice network. This is a requirement as Cricket’s network carries your voice over their 4G LTE network (or similar) that uses VoLTE (Voice over LTE) technology.

Since not all phones can pass this criterion, Cricket sells HD Voice-capable devices as well as a list of BYOD (bring your own devices) that can be unlocked to activate by any eligible plan. By running your IMEI number, you can also check if your device is compatible with the Cricket Network.
