How to disable Xbox game bar in Windows 11?

Windows 11, the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system, introduces exciting new gaming features, including the Xbox Game Bar. This built-in tool enhances gaming experiences by allowing users to seamlessly capture screenshots, record gameplay videos, and access gaming features. However, not everyone may find the Xbox Game Bar useful or prefer its presence during gaming sessions.

In this article, we have discussed how to disable the Xbox game bar in Windows 11 in a few simple and easy steps.


Disable the Xbox game bar in Windows 11 using the Windows settings

To disable the Xbox game bar in Windows 11 using the settings app, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Open the Settings app.

Step 2: In the settings app, click on the Gaming tab located in the panel on the left side of the screen and then the Xbox Game Bar option that appears on the right side of the screen.

Step 3: Turn off the toggle beside the Open Xbox Game Bar using this button on a controller option. The game bar is disabled, but to make sure it does not run any background processes, you have to follow a few more steps.

Step 4: Go back to Settings, click on the Apps located on the panel on the left side and then click on the Apps & Features option on the right.

Step 5: In the Apps and Features, search for the Xbox in the app list and find Xbox Game Bar.

Step 6: Click on the Three vertical dots beside the Xbox Game Bar, and in the dropdown menu, select the Advanced options.

Step 7: On the next page, scroll down, find the Background app permissions section and change the option to Never in the dropdown menu.

Step 8: On the same page, scroll down further and click on the Terminate button to stop the app from running in the background.

Disable the Xbox game bar in Windows 11 through Windows PowerShell

To remove the Xbox game bar completely from your PC follow the steps below.

Step 1: In the Windows search, type Powershell and click on the Run as Administrator option available on the right side.

Step 2: In the Powershell window, type the command Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage and hit Enter.

During the uninstallation process of the Xbox Game Bar, PowerShell will display a progress bar. Do not close the PowerShell until the uninstallation is complete.
