Screenshots have been an integral part of communication these days. If you have switched to Apple’s MacBook quite recently then it is most likely that you’re wondering about the snipping tool. Like Windows PC, Mac too has a snipping tool built-in its OS. Therefore, you do not have to download a snipping tool for your MacBook.
So if you want to take the whole screenshot or just want to capture a part of the screen to use or send it to someone, in this article we will guide you how to snip in your Macbook in few easy steps.
How to capture the entire screenshot?
Step 1: To take a screenshot of the entire screen, press Shift + Command + 3. You will see the thumbnail on the right-hand side of your desktop with the name Screen Shot [date] at [time].png.
Step 2: You can edit the name by selecting the thumbnail and clicking one more time or by right-clicking and selecting Rename from the dropdown list options.

How to capture a part of the screen?
Step 1: Press and hold the Shift + Command + 4 keys to open the crosshair (snipping tool).
Step 2: Click and drag the crosshair to select the area you want to capture and then release. This will capture the portion of the screen, which was selected. In case you do not want to take the shot at this stage, press Esc (Escape) key on the top left of your keyboard to cancel.
Step 3: You will see the thumbnail on the right-hand side of your desktop with the name Screen Shot [date] at [time].png. You can edit the name by selecting the thumbnail and clicking one more time or by right-clicking and selecting Rename from the dropdown list options.

How to capture a window or menu?
Step 1: Go to the window or menu you want to capture.
Step 2: Press and hold the following keys together- Shift + Command + 4 + Spacebar. This will turn your cursor into a Camera icon. If you want to cancel taking the screengrab, press Esc (Escape) key on the top left of your keyboard.
Hover over the window or menu you want to capture; It will turn the selected window or menu into a faint blue colour. Click and follow the next step.
Step 4: You will see the thumbnail on the right-hand side of your desktop by the name Screen Shot [date] at [time].png. You can edit the name by selecting the thumbnail and clicking one more time or by right-clicking and selecting Rename from the dropdown menu options.
Please note, in MacBook by default all screenshots are saved on the desktop. If you are using macOS Mojave or later version, you can change the location of the saved screenshots from the Options menu via screenshot app.
