Reset the Photos app

If you’re using Microsoft’s default photo viewer, resetting the app can help resolve the issue.

Step 1: Press Windows key + I to open Windows settings. Head over to the Apps tab.

Step 3: Scroll down to find the Photos app. Click the three vertical dots next to it and select Advanced Options.

Now, wait for the process to complete and restart your computer. 


Check Windows updates

Updating your PC again to complete the update can also solve the problem.

Step 1: Press Windows key  + I to go to Windows settings. Click on Update & Security.

Step 2: Click on the Check for updates button to check for any updates available for your system. Install any updates immediately, restart your PC and try again.

Check your GPU drivers

Updating your GPU drivers can also help resolve the error. 

Step 1: Right-click Start and select Device Manager from the menu.

Step 2: Under Display Adaptors, find your graphics card’s name, right-click on it and click on Update Drivers.

Step 3: Click on Search automatically for drivers. Windows will automatically look for and download the latest drivers for your particular GPU.

While this should help resolve the error, in case it doesn’t, click Uninstall device and restart your PC to force Windows to install the required drivers. You can then update them later. 


Run an SFC scan

Corrupt files are the primary reason why your PC might be behaving weirdly. Here’s how you can get rid of them and potentially resolve your issue. 

Step 1: Press Windows Key + S to bring up the Cortana/Search box and search for Powershell. Open Windows Powershell from the search results.

Step 2: Type sfc /scannow to scan your system for issues.

Step 3: If the SFC scan finds any problem, use the following command to resolve them. 

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Restart your PC, and the error should be gone.


Reset the Windows Store cache

The Windows store runs fine for the most part but can cause some problems when it doesn’t. All you need to do is press Windows key + R to open the Run prompt, type WSReset.exe and hit enter.

After the Store reset process is complete, restart your PC to check if the file system error has been resolved. 


Run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter

Running the Windows Store App troubleshooter can also smoke out the issue.

Step 1: Press the Windows key and search for Troubleshooter. Click the corresponding search result.

Step 3: Scroll down and run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter.

Delete outdated registry values

Deleting outdated registry values for the Photos app can force it to get new ones, fully updating the app in the process.

Step 1: Press Windows key + R to open the Run prompt. Type regedit and hit enter.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Classes \ Local Settings \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ AppModel \ Repository \ Families \ Microsoft.Windows.Photos_8wekyb3d8bbwe.

Step 3: Remove any entries with an older version number.

Now restart your PC and try again.
