Lenovo announces massive lineup refresh at MWC 2022

Lenovo has announced several new laptops across its ThinkPad, IdeaPad and ThinkBook lineups, as well as some major refreshes at MWC Barcelona this year. The ThinkPad lineup has received new P and T series devices powered by Intel and AMD processors. The same stands for the ThinkBook series, which refreshes for the ThinkBook 14s Yoga Gen 2 and Think 13s Gen 4. The IdeaPad gaming lineup also gets refreshes for the Gaming 3 and Gaming 3i series. 

Major devices include the ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5, priced at €2749 and the IdeaPad Gaming 3, starting at €999. The ThinkBook Yoga Gen 2 will be available starting €899. All devices mentioned above are expected to be available beginning June 2022.

The company also announced a number of other devices, including a USB-C monitor, the ThinkVison M14d available in August 2022 starting at €359, the Tab M10 Plus Gen 3 available starting April 2022 priced at €249 and a Qi powered wireless gaming mouse called the Legion M600s available starting at €99.99 in July 2022. There’s also a new Motorola Edge 30 Pro (Edge+ in North America). The smartphone will be available starting March 2022 and is priced at €590.

New ThinkPads

The primary release in the ThinkPad series is the ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5. The laptop gets 12th Gen Intel Core i9 H series processors, up to 64GB DDR5 4800MHz RAM and comes with Windows 11 Pro preinstalled.

In terms of the GPU, users can choose between Nvidia’s entire RTX lineup, starting from the 3050Ti going all the way up to the RTX 3080 Ti. The display is a 16-inch WUXGA or optional QUXGA panel coming in with optional touch support and FHD+, QHD+ and UHD+ resolution options. There’s a 90WHr battery and a 1080p hybrid webcam that supports Windows Hello facial recognition.

Other major laptops in the ThinkPad series include the ThinkPad T16 and T14 laptops with options to choose from either 12th Gen Intel vPro Core i7 processors (U and P series) or the AMD Ryzen Pro 6000 series processors. The T16i starts selling in April 2022, beginning at €1399, with the T14i and T14si coming in April and June 2022 starting at €1399 and €1599, respectively. The AMD variants for the T16 and T14 series will arrive in June and May 2022, respectively, at the aforementioned prices.

The P16s Gen 1 and P14s Gen 3 also get Intel 12th Gen vPro Core i7 P series processors and the ability to choose between either Windows 11 Pro, Linux or Red Hat Enterprise Linux preinstalled. The devices are expected to start shipping in April 2022 at €1549 and €1529, respectively. 


Refreshed ThinkBook series

Major changes here come in the second generation of the ThinkBook 14s Yoga, which now gets up to Intel 12th Gen Core i7 processors, up to 40GB RAM and Intel Iris X graphics.

The laptop has a 14-inch 1080p IPS panel with 300 nits brightness and 100% sRGB colour accuracy, Dolby Vision and touch support. There’s a choice between an FHD or HD camera which comes with a shutter. The laptop gets a 60WHr battery, and the power button pulls double duty as the fingerprint reader. 

The ThinkBook 14s Yoga Gen 2 will be available from June 2022, starting at €899. The hardware specifications are as follows.

Another device in the series that has seen a refresh is the ThinkBook 13s Gen 4, which also gets Intel 12th Gen processors, Intel Iris X graphics and up to 32GB RAM. The laptop will be available from June 2022, starting at €749.

IdeaPad series

The IdeaPad series is getting a refresh for the IdeaPad Flex 5i and Duet 5i and three Chromebooks — Flex 5i, Flex 3i and Duet 3. The flagship device is the Flex 5i getting 12th Gen Intel Core i7-1255U processors, Intel Iris X Max graphics and up to 16GB LPDDR4X RAM across both 14 and 16-inch models.

They also get an FHD webcam, Rapid Charge Boost for faster battery charging, and OLED 2.8K and 2.5K IPS panel for the 14 and 16-inch models, respectively. 

The IdeaPad Flex 5i will start shipping in June 2022, starting at  €499, while the AMD equivalents with Ryzen 7 5700U processors will be available in May 2022, starting at €549. The hardware specifications are as follows.

Other devices include the Flex 5i, 3i and Duet 3 Chromebooks which get 12th gen Core i5-1235U, Pentium Silver N6000 and the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 processors, respectively. 

The Duet 5i will come with up to 12th Gen Intel Core i7-1255U processors with an option Active Pen 3 and up to 16GB dual-channel LPDDR4X RAM and a 50WHr battery which supports Rapid Charge Express. The laptop will be available in July 2022, starting at €749.

Gaming lineup upgrades

The IdeaPad Gaming lineup is also getting refreshed, with its IdeaPad Gaming 3i and Gaming 3 laptops coming with 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700J or the Ryzen 7 6800H processors, respectively. GPU choices top out at the RTX 3050 Ti for the AMD variant and 3060 for the Intel variant, which also gets Intel Arc Graphics as an optional package.

The Intel-based Gaming 3i will be available starting June 2022 for the 16-inch model at €1099 and May 2022 for the 15-inch model starting at €999. The AMD variant will be available starting July 2022 for €1099 for the 16-inch model and June 2022 for the 15-inch model starting at €999.
