Minecraft has been one of the most popular action-adventure survival games since its launch nearly a decade ago. Since then, the game has evolved to include complex mechanisms allowing players to craft items, farm, mine, and do almost everything they can in real life.
As you progress in the game, animals also play an important role, providing food and transport as you travel across the infinite map. Horses are important here, as they allow you to travel distances faster and can sometimes come in handy.
In this article, we discuss everything you need to know to breed horses in Minecraft. You can watch the video below or continue reading the article.

Breeding horses in Minecraft
Generally, you can see horses in the plains and savanna biomes in the game. Once tamed, they can be saddled and ridden for transport. However, if you find two horses, you can also breed them to add to your stable.
Breeding horses do require a few things, though. First up, you need at least two tamed horses. Secondly, you need a golden apple or golden carrot to feed your tamed horses to get them to breed. Here’s a step-by-step guide to what you need to do.
Step 1: As mentioned before, you need to find two horses before you can get to breeding. If your horses keep running away, enclosing them in a fence or tying them to fence posts using lead is a good idea. Keep in mind that horses need to be close together when breeding.
Step 2: Once you’ve acquired your horses, tame them. To do that, walk up to a horse and press the right mouse button without holding anything. This will mount the horse, and you’ll notice it is running around frantically and, in some cases, even kicking you off its back. Mount the horse as often as required; eventually, the horse will calm down with hearts popping out, indicating that it has been tamed.
Step 3: After taming two horses, feed them a golden carrot, apple, or an enchanted golden apple to get them to breed. You can feed a horse by holding the required food item, walking up to the horse and pressing the right mouse button.
As soon as you see hearts pop up over your tamed horses, they’ll start breeding with each other. Before you know it, you’ll have a baby horse.
Note that to get the horses to breed, only the foods above will work, not the regular food items you can feed to horses in Minecraft. Another thing to remember is that there’s a cooldown period before you can breed your horses again. You’ll have to wait for five minutes before using the aforementioned process to produce more horses.
